Shaft Mount Reducers

Shaft mount reducers are enclosed helical gear reducers with a hollow output. They are mounted directly on the input shaft of the driven machine and are supported by the shaft and torque arm arrangement or motor mount frame. This eliminates the need for additional components to transmit torque from the reducer to the equipment. The components of a shaft mount reducer include:

• rotating bushing ring
• TorqTaper® bushing
• torque arm bracket
• torque arm rod and turnbuckle
• foot bracket
• input or high speed shaft
• an optional backstop

The Browning® shaft mount reducer, also referred to as the Browning SMTP, is a cost-effective method of driving machinery. The shaft mount design eliminates the need for support structures that are required in conventional foot mounted reducer assemblies. It also eliminates the need for chain, sprockets, couplings and bedplates. In addition, the design minimizes alignment problems.

The compact design of the shaft mounted reducer helps save space. It also allows the unit to be mounted at 360 degrees around the shaft and at the end of the conveyor. Additionally, the reducer is very efficient at approximately 98.5% efficiency per reduction stage. Typical industries for the Browning SMTP are aggregate, baggage handling, grain and wastewater treatment.

The TorqTaper Plus, a Browning tapered bore system, is a patented design that allows ease of installation and removal. The TorqTaper plus bushing can be installed on either the inboard or outboard side of size 107 through 315 reducers.
The Browning screw conveyor is a modification of the Browning shaft mount reducer. A conventional shaft mount reducer can be converted into a screw conveyor drive. Screw conveyor drives are used extensively in the grain industry.
The Finished Bore is one of two options available on the Browning shaft mount reducer. Some users prefer this option as it eliminates the need for a bushing.
RBC (Rotating Biological Contactor) drives are a specialized shaft mount reducer, designed with a split power path.
