Renewable Energy

Sustainability isn’t just good for the environment; it’s good for business. According to the Global Wind Energy Council, worldwide wind farm capacity grew 31 percent in 2009 alone. In the same year, the European Photovoltaic Industry Association reports that worldwide solar capacity grew to nearly 23 GW—a 46 percent increase over the previous year and a staggering 1,600 percent increase over the year 2000. Clearly, sustainability is a growth market, and Emerson Industrial Automation is helping drive the surge.

Wind Power Generation

For more than 20 years, SSB Wind Systems has been a leading provider of pitch-control systems, switch and control cabinets, software and services for wind turbines that are providing clean energy worldwide. Its products offer the industry’s most advanced safety features, highest energy output and greatest dependability. SSB even offers an internet-based system that can remotely monitor, adjust and troubleshoot wind turbines anywhere in the world.

On the other side of the flexible coupling, you’ll find Leroy-Somer systems converting the kinetic energy of wind into usable electrical power, with more than 5,000 wind turbine generators currently in use around the world. In addition to wind power, Leroy-Somer also supplies alternators for hydroelectric power plants as well as for CHP plants that recycle energy by simultaneously generating electricity and usable heat.

Solar Power

To convert natural energy sources into usable electricity, Control Techniques supplies the grid tie inverters used in more than 30 large-scale photovoltaic power plants around the world. The modular design optimizes energy production, maintaining 96 percent efficiency even on a cloudy day. Control Techniques also supplies inverters for the hydroelectric power industry, and helped build the world’s largest system for capturing the ocean’s inexhaustible supply of wave power.

It’s often said that the cleanest energy of all is energy not used. All Emerson Industrial Automation companies are working to conserve energy in their manufacturing environments and their products. SolaHD ENERGY STAR® certified transformers from Appleton Group, water- and energy-saving technologies from Branson Ultrasonics and energy-saving valves from ASCO Numatics are just a few examples of our commitment to sustainability.
