The Inertia Switch is a unidirectional shut down device that operates upon sharp impact and provides protection for oil well pumping units. When installed properly, the switch will shut down the pump engine or motor upon impact occurring from sucker rod breakage. The switch should be located at a position subject to maximum shock forces. It should never be installed immediately adjacent to bearing surfaces.
